Glutaminase

Glutaminase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of glutamine, a nitrogen-containing amino acid, to produce glutamate and ammonia. Glutaminase has different forms that are expressed in different tissues, such as the liver, kidney, intestine and brain. Glutaminase plays a role in various metabolic processes, such as urea synthesis, acid-base balance, neurotransmission and energy production. Glutaminase is regulated by several factors, such as ADP, ATP, glutamate and pH.
